Playbol is the sport of the future. A combination of soccer, rugby, and handball, Playbol incorporates the best aspects of each sport to make a dynamic and exciting new game. 70% of play is on the floor, and once the ball is launched into the air, rugby rules apply. To score, the player must throw the ball into the goal like that of handball. In addition, there will be hoops perpendicular to the goals where the players can dunk the ball–forcing the opposition to anticipate a lateral as well as longitudinal building of attack. This mimics a traditional Mayan sport, and the three-dimensionality requires much more holistic athletic prowess than what’s offered by typical sports today.
Teams have already been formed in NYC, Miami, LA, and San Diego. The NYC team, the SSTs, has begun training and is comprised of many premier athletes representing Fordham, Columbia, and UMD soccer programs.
